Greene County district court, week ending June 4

In Greene County district court Scott Thomas Perdue, 44, of Ogden was sentenced May 28 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He must pay $204.75 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Josie Debra Rivera, 25, of Harcourt was sentenced to one year in jail June 1 after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fined $1,875 with a $281.75 surcharge. Rivera also changed her plea to guilty to a charge of one count of child endangerment. On that charge she was sentenced to 13 days in jail, consecutive to the jail time she serves on the OWI charge. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. A second count of child endangerment was dismissed. Rivera must pay an amount not to exceed $1,000 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs we’re $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Richard James Compton, 51, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment May 28 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay a $430 civil penalty, an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge against Compton in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. He must pay $60 court costs in that case. (Sentencing:

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Jason M. Pirie, 39, of Callender, possession of marijuana- second offense and possession of methamphetamine- second offense; Suiza Thawng, 35, of West Des Moines, operating while intoxicated; and Russell Lee Gardner, 46, of Panora, criminal mischief- second degree, harassment- first degree, and driving while license barred. Trial dates were set for Aug. 24 in every case.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 41, of Ames has been charged with domestic abuse assault- second offense. The warrant was issued April 11 and returned June 2.

Cases were. initiated as follows: Austin Gregory Romberg, 20, of Newton, driving while license revoked; Taylor Jayde Kelly, 29, of Lake City, operating while intoxicated, and in a separate case, possess/carry dangerous weapon while under influence.
